Gerry Widdoes

Gerald Widdoes and Scott at the Cecil County Fair
                            Experience Counts......

am extremely proud to share that Gerry Widdoes has joined my team as Chief Deputy.

Gerry's background as one of the most respected experts on the fight against Drugs will help get the Sheriff's Office on track from day one to focus on the most important challenge facing our County. Gerry has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in asset forfeiture, one of the most important tools the Sheriff's Office can use to expand and grow the resources needed to make Cecil County safer. During his time with the Sheriff's Office Gerry was frequently called upon by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for his advice and counsel.

Gerry will play a central role in continuing to improve and develop the Sheriff's Office as the primary law enforcement organization in Cecil County.
Gerald was born and raised in Cecil County. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wilmington University with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.  Gerald also graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law and is a member of the Cecil County Bar Association. Gerald also completed the Police Executive Course from Penn State and the Police Administrator's School from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Gerald lives in Elkton with his wife Julie Burton Widdoes and their three young children. Julie has 25 years experience as a trooper and is currently an assistant shift commander.  Gerald has one brother, Charles Carson Widdoes, who lives in Cecil County and retired from the U.S. Air Force as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (E.O.D.) expert.  He currently works as a fire marshal and bomb disposal technician. (#1229 is a winner!)

Gerald recently retired from the Cecil County Sheriff's Office after 25 years of service. He began as a Deputy Medic and served in Patrol, Drug Task Force, and Criminal Investigations. He is a court recognized "Drug Expert". He has been an instructor at the Maryland State Police Academy, Cecil County State's Attorney's Office, Citizen's Police Academy, American Legion Boy's State, and for many local police agencies. Gerald regularly taught mandated yearly in-service classes on such topics as Search & Seizure, Constitutional Law, and Narcotics.  He also served as the agency prosecutor in misconduct cases as well as an agency prosecutor for an allied agency.

Awards: Gerald was Deputy of the Year under both Sheriffs DeWitt and Kennedy. He has Commendations from Sheriffs Kennedy, Killough & Janney. He was Drug Investigator of the Decade at the Cecil County Drug Task Force. Gerald has numerous other local, state & federal awards.

Community: Gerald is a decorated member of Singerly Fire Company where he has served as Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Fire Chief, and Ambulance (EMS) Director.  Gerald was previously Fireman of the Year and recipient of numerous yearly awards for the number of calls answered. .  He currently serves as EMS Compliance Officer.  Gerald firmly believes this volunteer service helped him in all aspects of his life and credits the fire service with much of his success.

Also, for the last 29 years, Gerald has been a successful small business owner and that business currently employs approximately 15 Cecil County residents.
